The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) has named FltPlan.com the first and only authorized electronic flight plan provider for general aviation flights departing the Dominican Republic. This makes the Dominican Republic the first Caribbean nation to fully accept electronically-submitted flight plans for departing flights. The new filing system is currently in place at Las Americas (MDSD), Luperon (MDPP), and Cibao International (MDST) and will be fully implemented at the country’s five remaining international airports by the end of April.

Most pilots got to know FltPlan.com as the place to go for highly-accurate flight planning and filing services, long before their iOS app came along. Until now the app primarily acted as a companion service to the website, allowing you to view flight logs, charts and airport data.

The most recent update extends the app's functionality by allowing you to create a new flight plan right from the app. You can access the Create a Flight Plan section from within FltPlan Go by going to the Maps icon > Edit > Save/File > App.

FltPlan Manager Offers Administrative Control of Pilots and Aircraft from a Single Account

FltPlan Manager is a new, premium program that gives charter operations, large flight departments, and fractionals control of the day-to-day flight planning activities of their fleet from a single, administrative account. A unique account is created for each aircraft in a company’s fleet, and pilots simply log in to the account for the aircraft to which they are assigned for each trip. Access to these aircraft-specific FltPlan accounts gives department heads, schedulers, and dispatchers immediate visibility to scheduled flights and access to individual aircraft accounts when changes are necessary.

FltPlan's Free eLogbook Has a New Look and Added Features

FltPlan has released a new version of their free eLogbook program with a redesigned user interface and an array of significant new features. Users can now add photos and documents to any log entry, store instructor endorsements, store passenger information to add to eLogbook entries, and add custom wallpaper to the home page. One of the most significant new features allows users to create an "at-a-glance" currency overview that graphs flying trends, landings per year, past flights, and flight times. The graph can be easily customized based on aircraft make and model, timeframe, and aircraft type.

FltPlan Launches New RAFT System

FltPlan has launched its newest service, RAFT, a sophisticated proprietary interface that works closely with the FAA's Traffic Management system to alert users of any current or upcoming ATC delays or ground stop programs. FltPlan's RAFT, which stands for Reactive Advanced Filing Technology, "reacts" to notices from the FAA regarding possible ATC delays at an airport by advance filing the flight plan, immediately, up to six hours in advance.

FltPlan Completes Rapid Decompression Testing for Android Tablets

FltPlan has conducted rapid decompression testing for Android tablets at National Technical Systems (NTS) in Boxborough, MA. In order to use an electronic device as a replacement for paper charts in the cockpit, Part 135 and 121 operators must receive formal approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. This testing is one component of the approval process detailed in the FAA's Advisory Circular AC 120-76C.

For Ken Wilson, who grew up hanging around Danbury Airport and the family aviation business, the timing couldn’t have been better. FltPlan is now offering up-to-date fuel price information for over 3,300 FBOs on its website and mobile apps. The fuel price listing is designed to offer pilots a single source to look up fuel prices without having to call the FBO or leave the website or app. FltPlan has hired a dedicated staff to contact FBOs and assist in the fuel price updates. According to the company, it now has four times more retail fuel prices posted than ever before making it the most updated and comprehensive source of FBO information.

FltPlan Reports Best Month in Company History

FltPlan reported the highest number of monthly flight plans and weather briefings created in company history: 460,193 flight plans and 452,000 weather briefings for the month of August 2013. FltPlan saw a 3.3 percent increase in flight plans created for jets over August 2012. There was also a 3.8 percent increase for piston aircraft flight plans created over the same period in 2012. Helicopter flight plans created rose 53 percent from a year ago.
